I make 100% original, custom Web sites, and also highly customized Wordpress sites.
I work in a Unix environment (OpenBSD) and hand-write the code for Web sites using vi, and draw the graphics using gimp. I test Web sites on all the major browsers using virtual machines that run different operating systems, like Windows.
My Web sites end up looking unusual because I spend a lot of time making the graphics from scratch, and I really believe in making something completely original.
In some of my examples, I came up with the look of the site, and in others, I copied a drawing a customer made. I really like the challenge of exactly copying a drawing, and it saves me loads of time when I don't have to guess what is wanted and imagine it myself. The drawing can be extremely simple and sloppy, and just have colors written in and widths and such written beside the elements they apply to. Here's an example of a customer drawing.
